Warehouse modernisation in plastics injection moulding shop

High storage capacity with a low space requirement

The Cologne-based company Heinrich Axmann GmbH & Co.KG is a modern, family-lead company specialising in sophisticated plastic packaging, containers and cutlery for the food sector.

In line with modernisation measures, it was decided that the material supply for the production of lids should be changed to an automated silo solution instead of the previous supply using sacks, which was very personnel intensive. Compared to manual filling, it increases process security significantly. An essential requirement was that the installation should save as much space as possible, so that the driving with lift trucks on the company premises would not be hindered.

It was decided to use the silos of A.B.S. Silo- und Förderanlagen GmbH in Osterburken to realise the project. The fact that the supplier"s polyester fabric Flex-Silos are tailored to the customer"s needs was crucial for this selection. Another factor was that A.B.S., due to its comprehensive competence, offers a complete storage concept covering the development, design and construction as well as a professional assembly and commissioning. This way A.B.S. ensures full service from one source.

The currently installed solution consists of four flexible Flex-Silos with a storage capacity of 27.6 t each. One of the major advantages of this silo technology is its square cross section, which allows a significantly better use of space compared to round silos. The Flex-Silos, which are custom-made from an uncoated, anti-static polyester fabric, are hung from stable steel frames, which are also precisely tailored to their application.

The frames stand on load cells, so that the control unit continuously receives information on the filling level. An electric sensor serves as a full detector for the additional protection against unintentional overfilling. Granulate extraction is carried out automatically via suction boxes. Operation and monitoring are carried out centrally via a control with touch panel and PC operation software. Control, filling level and weighing technology are adapted to the whole storage system, and enable an exact monitoring of storage quantities and -extractions for the production.
