Lödige has introduced the FKM Containment, the first mixer in its range specifically designed for use up to OEB Level 5

FKM Containment; new mixer for high containment applications

Gebrüder Lödige Maschinenbau GmbH has introduced the FKM Containment, the first mixer in its range specifically designed for use up to OEB Level 5.
In modern production environments – particularly in the pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries – mixing processes often generate dust, aerosols or other potentially hazardous substances. Without effective containment measures, these substances can endanger the health of staff or compromise product quality.

Designed for use up to OEB Level 5

Gebrüder Lödige Maschinenbau GmbH is responding to this and has introduced the FKM Containment, the first mixer in its range specifically designed for use up to OEB Level 5. This new machine design is based on the Ploughshare® Mixer developed and established by Lödige, which enables highest mixing accuracy in shortest possible mixing time.
The machine has been specially adapted for containment applications by optimally complementing the mixing system with suitable feeding and discharge systems, a two-stage filter system, a flexible isolator for machine access and modifications of the seals.

The features in detail

The use of split butterfly valves from renowned manufacturers enables dust-free product feeding and discharge up to OEB Level 5. Alternatively endless foil liner or bag transfer systems can be used.
Enclosing the inspection flaps within flexible isolators fitted with glove ports allows for interventions, visual inspection or minor manual adjustments inside the machine without breaching containment.
The modification of dynamically loaded seals (e.g. for mixing elements, choppers or discharge door) provides the system with permanent protection against potential leaks, even in highly stressed areas. Machine exhaust air is treated via a two-stage filter system, comprising a pneumatic cleaning mechanism for the first filter stage and a HEPA filter as the second filter stage.

A containment-compatible sampler enables taking representative samples during the mixing process without opening the system. The samples are discharged using single-use systems. Product quality can thus be monitored without exposing operating personnel to any risk. The use of a partially or fully automated WIP or CIP system for machine cleaning ensures automated and reproducible machine cleaning, eliminating the need to open the machine.

Lödige Vacuum Shovel Dryer VT
As requirements in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries are increasing, the Vacuum Shovel Dryers of type VT made by LÖDIGE are coming into focus. Vacuum drying offers a wide range of advantages in terms of process. The advantage of performing vacuum drying in a horizontal Shovel Dryer is that it combines the drying process with the benefits of a horizontal Ploughshare® Mixer. The mixing tools allow mixing precision of 1:100,000 or higher, providing crucial support for the drying process by ensuring a constant exchange between the heating surface and the product. This enables highly effective heat transfer into the moist product. Significantly larger heat exchange surface Compared to a vertically arranged drying system, the horizontal dryer has a larger heat exchange surface which contributes to shorter drying times. It also has various options for liquid addition and distribution, making it ideal for granulation processes. Thanks to its pressure-resistant design, the machine drum can also be used to carry out chemical reactions that require overpressure operation or generate it during process. The machine concept also includes filling and emptying via an integrated sieve

Continuous mixer from Lödige Maschinenbau in use at Hüttenwerke
High throughput, strong wear protection and particularly easy maintenance: In the coking plant of Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann (HKM), a continuously operating intensive mixer from Lödige Maschinenbau performs exceptionally well. Whether in fertilizer and animal feed production or in the processing of battery masses and fly ash, for example, heavy-duty applications place special demands on the process technology used. On the one hand, very high throughput rates are required in these areas of application. On the other hand, the machine must be able to process the sometimes highly abrasive materials without being damaged itself. And last but not least, the system components, which are subject to heavy wear in continuous operation, should be easy to maintain and clean. Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann (HKM) in Duisburg was also faced with this complex task. The coking plant there requires ground coal for the production of coke. To do this, the coal is first mixed intensively with a special wetting oil and various additives and residual materials (such as dust). The different materials are fed to the mixer from the corresponding storage bunkers in the correct ratio, mixed in the drum and later fed

Lödige ploughshare mixer conditions sewage sludge
A KM 300 DW ploughshare mixer from Lödige Maschinenbau is now used for conditioning in the new sewage sludge incinerator of the waste disposal company Zirngibl. Zirngibl Verwertungs GmbH & Co. KG, based in Mallersdorf-Pfaffenberg in Lower Bavaria (Straubing district), is expanding its range of sewage sludge disposal services with a new mono-incineration plant with phosphorus recovery. To ensure an optimal thermal process, the sewage sludge must be conditioned there before incineration. Precise pre-treatment in the ploughshare mixer Mixing and structuring in a continuously operating KM 300 DW ploughshare mixer from Gebrüder Lödige Maschinenbau GmbH proved to be a suitable process for conditioning the sewage sludge accordingly. The model has a drum volume of 300 litres and is designed for a filling level of 50 percent. During the ongoing process, the mixer is continuously fed with moist and partially dried sewage sludge via an automated transport process. The machine is based on the fluidised bed process introduced to industrial mixing technology by Lödige, which ensures very good mixing: Specially developed, ploughshare-shaped
