To achieve consistent pellet quality and reduce energy consumption, a major German pellet producer has installed up to nine MoistureScan and MoistureScan XT devices across its production lines. These advanced microwave sensors continuously monitor the moisture content of sawdust and wood chips at key points such as the dryer outlet, chip silo discharge, and pre-conditioning conveyors.
The sensors are flush-mounted into conveyor walls, ensuring uninterrupted material flow. MoistureScan technology delivers accurate, long-term stable readings of both surface and core moisture—independent of chip size or color. This allows for precise dryer control, reduces the need for manual sampling or lab analysis, and minimizes wear and energy use during pressing.
