PelletScan is the solution for the automated moisture- and simultaneous bulk density measurement in pellets
Adherence to the norm EN 14961
At the “Industrieforum Pellets” in Stuttgart in October 2009 it was announced that the new “EN 14961” becomes effective at the beginning of 2010 and thereby replaces national regulations. The certificate “ENplus” is an important seal of quality for pellets. By strict guidelines carefully examined pellets alone receive this titling. For the client this means:
- failure-free operating of the pellet heating
- low residual moisture, results in a high heating
- value with accordingly low emissions
- consistent length of the pellets and very little dust content
By the use of the new norm, the market becomes more accessible for the consumer and products from different manufacturers can be compared more easily. The manufacturers of quality pellets are therefore required to monitor the product’s quality in order to brand it with the “ENplus” seal. In addition to the moisture, the bulk density of the pellets must be measured, to guarantee the quality standards.
Measuring system PelletScan
The moisture and bulk density of the pellets are measured continuously and automatically through a bypass. The measuring process is based on the 2-parameter-microwave-resonance-technology.
The advantages compared to conventional systems are, that:
- the cavity resonator used, determines the moisture indepently of the density and the temperature (product and surrounding)
- the parameters moisture, bulk density+temperature are measured by a single measuring system
- a permanent monitoring and documentation of those three values is given.
For a final inspection the pellets are measured through the bypass, between the cooler and the packing. Using the determined data, the pelletisation and cooling can be monitored and changes in moisture and bulk density can be reacted to immediately. Therefore no manual final inspection has to be performed.
