K3 Pharmaceutical Feeders: Greater Robustness and Higher Accuracies

Coperion K-Tron K3 Pharmaceutical Feeders feature advanced KCM-III control technology and updated SFT weighing technology.
The Coperion K-Tron line of K3-PH feeders are specifically designed to meet the growing demands of continuous processing in the pharmaceutical industry. K3-PH feeders now feature the new KCM-III feeder control system and a further improved generation of Smart Force Transducer (SFT) weighing technology. Recent studies with a variety of excipients and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API’s) have shown that this innovative combination results in a significant increase in accuracy as well as in expanded feed rate ranges.

The KCM-III control technology features a completely new, powerful Central Processing Unit (CPU) with extended memory and optimized control algorithms. It ensures faster communication with the feeder drive, weighing system and peripherals. In combination with the latest generation of SFT load cells, the KCM-III also offers a significantly higher weighing resolution of 8,000,000:1 in 20 ms.

The updated SFT weighing technology allows for even higher sampling rates at 450 samples per second. These higher rates result in better noise filtering as well as less weight shift under vibration. In addition, the optimized controls lead to better short-term feeding accuracy as the control system reacts quickly to changes in the system.

The KCM-III automatically stores up to seven days of log and event files, as well as trace and process data. This is of very high importance for traceability. Extended storage traceability is available as part of an optional software bundle.

Video documentary Coperion K-Tron ActiFlow™ bulk solid activator
Short film documentary on the Coperion K-Tron ActiFlow™ bulk solid activator. This clever device prevents bridging and ratholing of bulk material being discharged from a hopper by a feeder in an industrial manufacturing process. Owing to its tight integration with the feeder control it acts preventatively and only when required and thus does not additionally compact the bulk material. Furthermore it is completely non-product-contact and maintenance free which makes it especially suitable for food or pharma applications.

Coperion supplies plant for chemical recycling of PMMA to Renov8
Highly economical process and technology solution for recycling PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate). It will thermally convert PMMA into liquid rMMA in a continuous process. Coperion is supplying a complete system for the chemical recycling of PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) to Renov8, a subsidiary of just right® based in JAFZA, Dubai, one of the leading manufacturers in plastics processing and manufacturing, specializing in sustainable solutions. The Coperion system for the chemical recycling of PMMA will be installed at the KEZAD Polymers Park in Abu Dhabi, which is among the most popular vertically integrated Polymers downstream manufacturing eco-systems in the region. It will thermally convert PMMA into liquid rMMA in a continuous process. The system includes material handling, two ARW discharge agitators with discharge screws and two Smart Weigh Belt (SWB) feeders, as well as a ZSK 92 Mc18 twin screw extruder with 92 mm screw diameter, a vacuum system and a condenser. Key components of the system are produced in-house by Coperion. Nilesh Jain, founder of Renov8, visited Coperion at its booth 14/B19 at K 2022 to sign the contract.

Coperion Recycling Innovation Center: State-Of-The-Art Test Lab
Construction of a new state-of-the-art test laboratory for plastics recycling applications. Forward-looking investment for more sustainability in plastics recycling. Coperion GmbH has initiated the construction of a state-of-the-art recycling test lab at its Niederbiegen/Weingarten, Germany, production facility. The new Coperion Recycling Innovation Center will be built in the immediate vicinity of Coperion’s existing Test Center for Bulk Solids Handling. Driven by rising demands worldwide for a circular plastics economy, a clear trend has taken shape over the last years toward more recycling. Coperion is meeting this trend, not only with its equipment and processes designed for recycling applications, but also with its new Recycling Innovation Center. At the facility, customers will be able to develop and test new, sustainable products and recycling processes together with Coperion’s experts. All essential recycling process stages will be covered within the facility including materials conveying, feeding, extrusion, pelletizing, and materials postprocessing. In addition, Coperion will conduct its own research activities

Smart Production Solutions for the Extrusion of Battery Compounds
Research into new Industry 4.0 solutions for the production of lithium-ion batteries, Coperion as a research partner of the Technical University of Braunschweig As a project partner, Coperion GmbH, Stuttgart, supports the Technical University of Braunschweig in the research of smart production solutions in the extrusion of battery compounds. The overriding aim of the "DaLion 4.0" project (data mining in the production of lithium-ion battery cells) is to develop new Industry 4.0 approaches for the production of lithium-ion batteries and to use the findings for more efficient and more effective manufacturing. To this end, concepts for cyber-physical production systems are being developed and integrated into the production of battery cells. Continuous production with Coperion twin screw extruders The research project is divided into various areas of activity and is supported by several industrial partners. One key aspect of this research is the investigation and conversion of the mixing process of the electrode slurry from a batch process to continuous extrusion.
