Double wall modular magnet filter for chocolate

The range of magnetic filters that Goudsmit Magnetics has been manufacturing for several years has recently been expanded with a modular, double-wall chocolate filter.
The magnetic filter produced according to EHEDG guidelines is composed of Neodymium magnets that ensure effective separation of very small iron particles from 30μm, weakly magnetic particles and even iron dust from sticky substances such as chocolate. The hygienic filter can be seen on the Powtech in Nuremberg, position 3-634. In the new design, the housing is not welded but made of one piece -RVS 316-. The new design prevents the heated liquid, e.g. water, from entering the product channel. This water flows through the outer wall of the filter and keeps the chocolate liquid. In the fully modular design, a standard filter vessel of choice can be an ISO or a DIN pipe. This makes the filter easy to integrate into existing installations and also suitable for all couplings. The system fully meets the highest possible requirements within the food industry, such as HACCP and EHEDG.

Modular design

An advantage of the modular design is the ability to easily apply the desired options. For example, an extra powerful magnetic core that increases the magnetic value to 11,000 gauss. Cleaning can easily take place semi-automatically with the help of a tool. The optional “Lock out, Tag out” or LoTo safety system ensures that the magnet will only return to production if the magnet is properly replaced after cleaning. A detection sensor to be applied as desired continuously checks whether a magnetic field is present in the product channel.
The magnetic filter is used in tubes and/or pipelines in the food industry, where it performs deferrization of products conveyed under pressure. Even the smallest iron particles can be filtered out of sticky substances, such as chocolate.

Automatic External pole magnet for feed capacities up to 200 m3/hour
The automatic external pole magnet, recently developed by Goudsmit Magnetics, is suitable for processing large capacities of feed and other bulk goods. The magnet shown at the Victam stand 1351 can be used for intake in ship unloading installations and serves to protect the machinery. Moulds, grinding and mixing equipment can be damaged by undesired metal particles. The external pole magnet is intended for coarse separation and separates parts larger than 2 mm. Magnetic bars are suitable for the separation of finer metal particles. Fully automatic cleaning is integrated into the process system and takes place at the push of a button, without the intervention of an operator. The low built-in height of 500 mm makes the system easy to build into existing installations. Free fall line Two powerful capturing magnets are mounted on the outside of the completely smooth casing and, depending on the version, separate coarse or very fine iron particles from various material streams. The outer core magnet is fitted with Neodymium-Iron-Boron (NdFeB) magnets for mounting in free-fall lines. An advantage of this outer-core

Magnetic separator for lithium battery powder
Goudsmit has recently produced a rotating magnetic separator for the metal-free processing of lithium-ion powder for batteries, to guarantee optimum quality of cathode powders; nickel, cadmium and lithium. Any metal contamination present in the powder reduces the quality of the material mix and leads to a battery’s short life. The automatic cleaning rotating magnetic separator filters metal particles as small as 30 µm from the poorly flowing lithium powder. Lithium is extracted from salt lakes such as the Salar de Atacama in Chile, where there are huge reserves of brine containing lithium. Some large producers process this lithium into a powder that serves as a raw material for batteries used in electric cars, laptops and mobile phones, among other things. Operation The magnetic separator contains nine strong, rotating magnetic bars that prevent the fine powder from sticking to the bars like a bridge. The rotating movement ensures that the product does not block on the bars, so that good deferrization is possible. The contact with the magnetic bars is therefore optimal. This is important because weakly magnetic particles in particular must touch the magnetic

Magnetic filter for paper pulp
Goudsmit Magnetics has recently made a series of magnetic filters that are suitable for removing baling wire from paper pulp. These steel wires hold bales of cellulose together and –when everything goes as it should– are removed before t This is done in an automated process followed by human inspection. In practice, the process is never perfect and steel wire still occasionally ends up in the paper pulp. This causes damage to the pulp processing equipment, as well as production downtime. Placing a magnet in the paper line prevents equipment damage, downtime and therefore significant losses. MAGNETIC FILTER The magnetic filters for paper pulp have a large bore for product flow, ranging from DN100 to DN400. This passage is completely surrounded with very strong magnetic bars with a high flux density (also referred to as the Gauss value), making it possible to capture the steel wire even at a relatively high flow rate. In addition, the magnetic insert is fitted with a sturdy guide and pneumatic rods, which simplifies handling for operators. This is not only ergonomic but also ensures that regular inspection takes place.” It is surprising that magnetic filters are not yet standard in paper lines.

The value of magnetic flux density for magnetic separators
The operation of a magnetic separation system is often judged with magnetic field measurements. But this is not the whole story. We often determine the degree of operation of a magnetic separation system using magnetic field measurements. In that case, we measure the magnetic flux density at one or more places in the separator. Determine separation capacity We regularly use these measurements – consciously or unconsciously – as the only measure for the separation capacity of magnetic separators. In specific situations, these measurements can provide a sufficient picture thereof, such as for determining the decrease in magnetic force – and therefore separation power – of a specific separator over time. Or to compare the performance of two or more of the same types of separators that are used under the same process conditions. More than flux density measurements In general, however, this is not the case and we have to include more aspects than just flux density measurements when determining the separation power of a magnetic separator. This is explained in this document.
