Continuous dust measurement with ProSens

Dust concentration dryer exhaust air

In a chemical company, dust is measured in the exhaust air of all dryer lines. Previously, measuring instruments were used for this purpose based on an optical measuring method.
The disadvantages of these turbidity measurements are the high purchase price and the continuous maintenance effort to keep the lens dust-free.
The company was looking for a maintenance-free, lower purchase price alternative. These two requirements were met with our ProSens system, that works on the basis of electrodynamics. The company is now replacing their existing optical systems step-by-step with ProSens.

Process data:
Customer: Chemical company
Material: Polyamide dust
Installation location: Clean gas side in the dryer exhaust air
Function: Continuous dust measurement

Solution:

The ProSens was specially developed to provide a reliable dust measurement on the clean sides after filters. It works on the basis of electrodynamics.
Due to its robust and durable construction, it provides a dust measurement solution for almost any application. A measurement is also possible for channel diameters up to DN 2000.
The stainless steel measuring electrode is optionally available with Teflon or ceramic coating. Thus, even sticky and abrasive dusts are measured. If none of this helps, a purge air connection is available to clean dust deposits from the electrode.
The sensor is mounted to the duct with the help of a TriClamp connection. This makes it easy to remove it from the pipe and clean it during the annual inspection. Furthermore, the system has all the necessary self-checking functions which give the customer certainty that the device is reliable at all times.

Customer benefits:

  • excellent price-performance ratio
  • low maintenance requirements
  • reliable dust measurement in mg/m3

Online moisture and process temperature measurement
M-Sens 3 for bulk solids measurement Our proven continuous moisture measurement M-Sens has been equipped with two new additional features. Now it is possible to receive the material temperature continuously via a separate 4 … 20 mA output. ✓ immediate and accurate measurement of the process temperature up to 80 °C ✓ temperature signalling via a separate 4 ... 20 mA output ✓ optional display in ° Celsius or ° Fahrenheit With the integrated temperature measurement the user receives another important process parameter in real time, which is particularly interesting for drying, heating or cooling processes. Furthermore the M-Sens 3 sensor also offers the function of flow detection. The new „FD feature“ (Flow Detection) extends process reliability, especially when used in applications with materials that tend to cake. The new FD function immediately detects whether the material in front of the sensor is in motion. Only when material is moving it is ensured that not the same material

Dust monitoring with ProSens on clean gas side Exhaust gas cleaning in a pneumatic conveyor system
Dust monitoring with ProSens on clean gas side
Exhaust gas cleaning in a pneumatic conveyor system Application An international mining company extracts minerals under ground for the fabrication of fertilizers. For the long term improvement and safety of the structure stability fillings and binders (dry bulks) with defined recipes are injected locally into former mining cavities. These materials are delivered above ground, stored in silos and afterwards transported in a closed-pipe pneumatic conveying system to storage silos below ground. There the fillings and binders are mixed with a salt solution, pumped to the cavities and eventually harden. The silos used for the intermediate storage are under negative pressure for safety reasons. They are equipped with a silo vent filter (main filter) and a downstream security filter (secondary filter). This assures the air purity according to legal regulations, which is measured constantly after the security filter. When a specified limit value is reached, an alarm should be transmitted to the control room. Process

Continuous dust monitoring with AirSafe Avoidance of Ex areas
Continuous dust monitoring with AirSafe
Avoidance of Ex areas Application A producer of dry mortar needs dry sand and trass for the production process. Both materials are dried in a hot gas heater at a temperature of 500 °C before they are admixed. The hot gas heater uses brown coal dust as combustion material. The brown coal dust, which is stored in a silo, is transported via a rotary valve in free fall to a distribution plate. From there it is blown by an airstream into the drying furnace. The rotary valve and the distribution plate are located in the silo housing. Extreme dust formation, caused by a leakage, can cause an Ex zone in this area. Therefore the plant operator looks for a prompt possibility to detect dust formation. The plant is shut down when a safety threshold is reached, which prevents the development of an explosive atmosphere.
