Precision in Focus: Correct Installation of Screen Media

Curt Ebert Siebtechnik GmbH is issuing technical guidelines for the installation of screen media to increase efficiency in bulk solids processing and minimize costly downtime caused by wear and tear.

Preparation and cleaning of the machine

A smooth screening process begins before the actual installation. Thorough cleaning of all support surfaces on the screen machine frame to remove adhering material is mandatory. Furthermore, rubber linings on the supports must be checked for abrasion and correct height, and replaced if necessary. Only a clean base guarantees the optimal fit of the medium.

Correct tensioning for maximum service life

The tensioning process is a decisive factor for the component’s service life. Tensioning rails or hooks must engage fully with the screen media tensioning folds. Initial tensioning should always be performed evenly from the center of the fold outwards before final tightening. Achieving firm contact with all supports is the primary goal.
  • Cleaning of support surfaces before installation
  • Inspection of rubber profiles for wear
  • Even pre-tensioning starting from the center
  • Firm contact on all support profiles

Regular inspections prevent fluttering breaks

The process does not end after installation. Tensionable screen media must be re-tensioned after two to four hours of operation, and again after a further eight to ten hours. This prevents ”fluttering breaks,” which are usually caused by insufficient tension or a lack of support. Daily inspections protect against sudden operational failures.

Maintenance and professional repair

Minor damage should be repaired immediately by inserting new wires or attaching pieces of screen cloth. It is crucial to avoid welding on spring steel wire. Particular caution is required when cleaning harp screens or media with thin wire diameters to avoid permanently damaging the sensitive structure of the screen mesh.
