BigBag-Handling in the plastics industry

BigBag emptying in a modular system

BigBag-Handling in the plastics industry

The demand for BigBag emptying systems from Achberg has increased more than significantly since the K trade fair last October, according to the sales department of the southern German manufacturer. The great advantage of the modular and stable steel constructions is the well-thought-out construction and the cost-effective shipping of the components.

There are two different ways of handling the BigBags: On the one hand, the BigBags can be transported to the emptying station with a lifting traverse and forklift and hooked into the emptying station. On the other hand, it is possible to transport the BigBag into the emptying station with the help of a mobile electric chain hoist with a lifting cross. An integrated container, which is available in a wide range of sizes and configurations, holds the bulk material as an intermediate buffer. From there, the bulk material can be emptied by pneumatic vacuum or pressure conveying.

BigBags are usually used in the plastics industry for the storage of raw materials and the in-house transport of a wide variety of bulk materials. These can be granulates, regranulates, regrinds, flakes or powders. Depending on the bulk material properties, special discharge options are necessary to ensure process-safe emptying and discharge.

Since many years, Siloanlagen Achberg is producing the BigBag emptying systems for exactly these applications in the plastics industry. In the beginning, the metalworking company constructed and manufactured the steel frames on a project-specific basis. Over time, more and more standardisation took place and a modular system was built up. With this standardisation, Achberg now covers over 90 % of the project-related applications.

Silo control in the plastics industry: Achberg has developed a new interface for user-friendly operation and monitoring of silo systems. A silo system is controlled and monitored via control components housed in a switch cabinet. The user interfaces developed specifically for this purpose by the south German manufacturer clearly depict the components built in to the silo systems. The navigation guides the user through the sub-menus in an intuitive and user-friendly manner, similar to an app. The main tasks the user interface offers include viewing filling levels, operating system components and the registration of parameters as well as information regarding the bulk solids. The filling level indicator continuously and/or intermittently displays measured filling levels, maximum filling levels and components signals in real time via high-quality touch panels, which are available in different sizes. The user interface can also be accessed in the company network via a web client that works on all mainstream web browsers. The standardised user interface is pre-configured by the factory for the silo system

New suction box with angel hair grid With the development of the new ASK.AH suction box, Siloanlagen Achberg offers the possibility of removing angel hair from plastic granulate.
New suction box with angel hair grid
With the development of the new ASK.AH suction box, Siloanlagen Achberg offers the possibility of removing angel hair from plastic granulate. The new suction box with angel hair grid is attached to the outlet of silos or flexible silos. The unwanted angel hair is held back by a grid sieve (angel hair grid) integrated in the flow, which is fixed in a lockable drawer with sight glass. To empty the grid sieve, the drawer can be pulled out and the angel hair can be removed. The suction box has a modular design. Different connection flanges are available for attaching the suction box to the silo outlet. Up to four suction pipes with diameters from Ø 38 mm to Ø 84 mm can be attached. Suction boxes with more suction points are already being planned. How is angel hair created? Angel hair occurs during the pneumatic conveying of plastic granulates when the surface of the plastic granulate is damaged during transport through the conveying lines. Supported by a high conveying speed and a high conveying air temperature, the initially slight damages then form long plastic threads, which can lead to problems during

Focus on the handling and storage of plastic granules
More products, more exhibition space and an entirely new stand design – these are the intentions of the south-German manufacturer for this year’s K Fair. The exhibits focus on the handling and storage of plastic granules; however, many of these products can also be used for plastic regrinds and regranules. For this year’s K Fair in Düsseldorf, Siloanlagen Achberg has many new ideas. With a much larger exhibition stand, Achberg presents the latest trade fair innovations and a selection of its market-renowned product range. The focus is on the storage and handling of bulk materials for the plastics industry. Particularly in current times, a sufficient supply of materials and a process-stable material feed are of utmost importance. Trade fair highlights The first prototype of the new mixing container was previously introduced by Siloanlagen Achberg at this year’s KUTENO in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. The further developed version of the mobile mixer is already close to being ready for series production. The product should be available on the market from early 2023. Additionally, 3D-printed examples of plants and a coupling

Suction tubes for plastic containers
Siloanlagen Achberg offers an inexpensive solution for retrofitting a suction nozzle to plastic containers as commonly used in industry. This significantly improves handling and at the same time avoids contamination. Especially in plastic injection moulding plants, plastic containers (material bins, waste bins) are ubiquitous. Working without is almost unimaginable, although the disadvantages are well known: electrostatic charging, tipping over and poor residual emptying. Siloanlagen Achberg has developed an easily retrofitted suction nozzle to reduce the risk of tipping over and to enable optimum emptying. Retrofitting is very simple: a template is used to cut an opening in the rear wall of the plastic container so that the suction nozzle can be inserted and screwed to the screw-on counter plate. Easy installation The retrofit system, made of stainless steel, consists of the suction nozzle, the screw-on counter plate and the necessary screws. The counter plate is equipped with threaded rivets so that there are no nuts inside that could come loose and fall into the granulate. The suction nozzle is available for all common pipe system diameters and has a flap to prevent contamination

Single-walled suction probe with convenient regulation of intake air
Siloanlagen Achberg has designed a user-friendly and powerful suction probe with gradual regulation of the suction air, to ensure the proper solids to air ratio for pneumatic conveying. To expand the market-renowned suction probe range, Siloanlagen Achberg has designed a user-friendly and powerful suction probe with gradual regulation of the suction air. As is generally known, suction conveying begins when the bulk material enters the material line. Here it is important that the ratio of bulk material and conveying air can be optimally adjusted. ”The single-walled suction probe with the designation SGL.1B was designed precisely for this purpose,” says the manufacturer. Another advantage: the lance is a cost-effective alternative to the double-walled suction probe . The focus is on the sliding sleeve, which is easy to lock in place by means of a locking bolt. With a total of 6 graduations, the conveying air can be optimally adjusted and documented for the respective application. In practice, it has been shown that even larger throughputs of plastic granulate can be realised reliably, especially for small to medium distances. Achberg manufactures
