MBA Instruments at Fair Trans Tank Germany / Hamburg

Stall D12 Technology for level and conductivity measurement

MBA Instruments GmbH, the level and conductivity measurement technology specialist, is presenting the measuring device MLA1000, the only one of its kind in the world, at the trade fair TANK STORAGE GERMANY from 25 to 26 November 2015. The new conductivity measuring device, installed directly within the pipeline, continuously measures the conductivity of light oils, such as kerosene (Jet A-1) while in flux.

Using this method, the additives infused to prevent electrostatic charging can be controlled in an extremely precise manner and in accordance with the principle ”as much as is necessary and as little as possible”. The conductivity rating of kerosene in a pipeline is, thus, precisely adjusted and is continuously maintained at the value defined. The system has proven itself time and again in tank storage depots and at airports.

Mode of operation:

The MLA1000 measuring device leverages the flow velocity within the pipeline. While there is a relatively strong flow of between 0.5-7 m/s in the pipeline, because of the small size of the apertures permitting flow ingress and egress, the flow velocity within the measuring probe is diminished. The resulting laminar flow between the two electrodes within the probe leads to a permanent depletion of polarisation and, thus, to a highly precise and current conductivity and temperature rating.

SMB International and MBA instruments: two brands – one idea.

The two companies SMB and MBA focus upon the “material handling” segment. The planning, development, manufacture, global distribution and servicing of highly complex, automated loading systems, filling systems, measurement technology for fill levels and conductivity, palletizers and shiploading systems form the comprehensive product portfolio. The SMB Group has consciously opted for a high degree of in-house manufacturing at its site in Quickborn near Hamburg. This enables customers’ requests to be implemented in a spontaneous, targeted and rapid manner, whilst retaining the same high quality. A high-end mechanical and electrical manufacturing facility coupled with the focus on pre-assembly allows the assurance of qualitative and delivery reliability. Highly qualified installation and service teams work on domestic and global projects. The distribution network, which has operations worldwide, ensures swift and effective information-sharing and coordination.
