Bulk materials perfectly sorted

S+S provides several technologies for removing contaminations from food bulk materials

At the POWTECH 2014 trade fair in Nuremberg (hall 4A, stand 125) S+S Separation and Sorting Technology GmbH of Schönberg, specialist for individual contaminant detection solutions, presents magnet systems and inductive metal separators for applications in the bulk ma-terials industry. The trade fair highlight is the enhanced RAYCON BULK product sorting system operating with X-ray technology.

Product purity is imperative in the food industry. Food producing and processing companies therefore must take measures to guarantee product purity. The S+S RAYCON BULK product sorting system is especially suited for the inspection of bulk materials and for contaminant sepa-ration for example in the incoming goods area. Guaranteed raw material purity eliminates dangers for consumers. Perfect product quality also ensures that complete batches of food that may contain contaminations no longer have to be returned and destroyed (`Save Food!`). Such product recalls are expensive and – what is much more important – damaging to a company`s image.

Michael Mohr, Head of Sales Business Unit FOOD at S+S, describes the advantages of RAYCON BULK: `The RAYCON BULK product sorting system represents decades of experience S+S has in the fields of food inspection and sorting technology. Using X-ray technology RAYCON BULK solves sorting tasks that cannot be managed by conventional colour sorting systems with camera technology, for example because contaminants have the same colour as good material. The main group of contaminants that are detected by RAYCON BULK are metals, stones, and glass.` For the Powtech 2014 S+S has further enhanced the RAYCON BULK system. Increased belt conveyor speed now makes it possible to reach even higher throughput capacities.

In addition to the X-ray scanner S+S also presents inductive metal separators and magnet sep-arators. All the product inspection systems consider the aspect that under certain conditions the bulk materials to be inspected may involve a dust explosion hazard. S+S systems can undergo conformity assessment according to the specifications of ATEX product directive 94/9/EC. All S+S contaminant inspection systems furthermore comply with the hygiene standards of the food industry (`Hygienic Design`).
