Further product development of worm geared motors as a result of specific customer requests In one case, the long-standing customer Rhein-Nadel Automation provided the impetus for a meaningful further product development. In a special case, a bunker conveyor is used to stock up work pieces with a filling volume of between 5 and 200 litres that are equipped with Ruhrgetriebe worm geared motors in a three-phase and AC design. However, the transport speed of the single stage worm gear was too high for the bunker conveyor in order to fill the work pieces into the sorting pot in a dosed manner. The Development Department managed to find a worm geared motor in stock that could be adjusted to match the particular needs of the customer. The power of the motor already matched the requirements, but the structural design and the output shaft had to be modified. Their non-ventilated design prevents the attraction of dirt particles and, in doing so, clearly reduces the possibility of deposits on the motor’s smooth surface. Any contamination can also be much more efficiently removed than from standard three-phase motors with cooling fins, making single-drum motors the perfect choice for sanitary applications in clean room conditions, for example in the foodstuff, chemical and pharmaceutical production fields.
