Raising the limit of high performance pressure relief
Raising the limit of high performance pressure relief
Fike announces the expansion of its G2 Technology with the introduction of the versatile ATLAS line of bursting (rupture) discs. G2 is a patented, state-of-the-art technology used to manufacture bursting discs without the use of hard score tooling. The process builds bursting discs that are free of stress zones that can fatigue and offers premium performance in all facets of rupture disc technology. The ATLAS series offers even higher pressure capability than was previously available, further extending the capabilities of the G2 line of products. The ATLAS range of bursting discs is available in Hastelloy® C276 and 316/316L Stainless Steel in sizes DN25 (1”) through DN100 (4”). Consistent with other G2 Technology discs such as the AXIUS® and AXIUS® SC, the benefits of the ATLAS bursting disc include a 95% operating ratio, liquid or vapour service, back pressure resistance and unrivalled cycling capability. The addition of the ATLAS series of discs…

New European Standard Specifies the Use of Pressure Protection
New European Standard Specifies the Use of Pressure Protection
The new EN1114-1 Class C European Standard in support of the implementation of the Machinery directive 2006/42/EC has been released on October 2011 and addresses the safety requirements for plastic and rubber extrusion machines. This novel standardisation document addresses the need for overpressure protection of extrusion unit barrel. As a result of the high level of reliability and simple installation the use of bursting disc devices is recommended. The use of bursting discs avoids the required use of sophisticated and safety-system certified pressure sensing systems and therefore results in lowest cost of ownership for these critical pieces of production equipment used in today’s plastics and rubber manufacturing industries. As a renowned producer of Extruder Rupture Disc devices since more than 60 decades Fike offers a wide range of standard solutions to this industry application, with of-the-shelf solutions for most used applications. For specific non-standard…

Fike Launches Bidirectional Explosion Diverter
Fike Launches Bidirectional Explosion Diverter
Fike has introduced a bidirectional explosion diverter to enhance its range of passive explosion protection equipment. The explosion diverter - also referred to as back flash interrupter or explosion decoupler - will enable the protection of new and existing vessels to be validated using a passive device. There are 9 nominal sizes available for the Fike explosion diverter, ranging from DN100 to DN600. As standard explosion vents are not suitable for this application, Fike offers a third-party-tested and -approved non-fragmenting explosion vent certified for use on this type of device. The bulged vent ensures a smooth flow diversion; coupled with low burst pressure and inertia, the diverter will provide a low risk of flame propagation beyond the diverter. If a deflagration is allowed to propagate through a conveying line, this may cause pressure piling, rapid flame acceleration and transition to detonation if not disengaged in a timely manner. The resulting explosion…
