Distillery Cuts Waste Costs with Dewatering Centrifugal Sifter

8 Feathers Distillery has streamlined its waste management by using a Kason centrifugal sifter to process 7,500 pounds of stillage weekly, eliminating municipal surcharges and repurposing solids as livestock feed.

The Challenge of Stillage Management

The distillery faced significant hurdles due to a fine milling process that clogged conventional filters. Managing 3,000 pounds of grain weekly resulted in over 7,500 pounds of stillage, requiring efficient solid-liquid separation to meet municipal wastewater standards and avoid excessive disposal fees.

Selecting Centrifugal Sifting Technology

After evaluating filter presses and rotary screeners, the company selected a Kason centrifugal sifter for its high throughput and compact 21-inch by 75-inch footprint. The unit’s cantilevered shaft design allows for tool-free cleaning and rapid maintenance, which is critical for food and beverage operations.

Mechanical Separation and pH Balancing

The sifter utilizes an internal auger and rotating paddles to press the mixture against a horizontal screen cylinder. This process yields two distinct streams:
  • Liquid filtrate, which is treated with ash to neutralize pH before sewer discharge.
  • Dewatered grain solids, collected in totes for use as animal feed.

Operational Benefits and Sustainability
The implementation of the dewatering centrifugal sifter has provided several key advantages for the facility:
  • Elimination of extra wastewater treatment surcharges.
  • Reduction in solid waste transportation and disposal costs.
  • Creation of a sustainable byproduct for local agricultural use.
  • Minimal downtime with a cleaning cycle of only two to three minutes.

One of Japan’s most respected coffee producers turned to Cablevey Conveyors to overcome a long-standing challenge in its production process: material breakage during conveying In the competitive world of coffee manufacturing, the difference between good and exceptional often lies in how carefully raw materials are handled. For producers working with delicate green coffee beans, even small amounts of breakage can lead to reduced yield, inconsistent roasting, and diminished product quality. Recognizing this, one of Japan’s most respected coffee producers turned to Cablevey Conveyors to overcome a long-standing challenge in its production process – material breakage during conveying. Protecting a premium product Since its founding in 1953, Nippon Coffee Trading Co. has earned an enviable reputation for producing some of the highest-quality coffee in Asia. With annual sales reaching $86.7 million in 2015, the company’s growth has been driven by its uncompromising standards and commitment to quality at every stage of production, from sourcing to roasting to packaging. However, as production volumes increased, the company began to

Akona launches UK production of Cablevey systems
Material processing and handling solutions specialist, Akona Process Solutions, is now building Cablevey conveying systems in the UK, delivering faster lead times, lower costs and a smarter solution for European manufacturers. Previously produced exclusively in the US, the decision to co-locate production to the UK has been driven by customer demand and commercial strategy. With an increasing requirement for shorter lead times, reduced shipping costs and localised services, the shift enables Akona to respond more swiftly and efficiently without compromising Cablevey’s proven track record of quality. Production is already underway, with three UK-built projects in progress. The first system is due to be commissioned in Ireland in the next 3-4 months. “Customers have been asking for a locally manufactured Cablevey solution for some time,” said Akona’s Ben Ayrton, Managing Director Europe. “They want faster, more cost-effective delivery, with the confidence that comes from dealing with a regional partner who understands the regulatory and logistical landscape. We’re now in a position to meet that demand head-on.” The move also delivers significant commercial advantages for

Kason launches innovative design in circular screening technology
The new designed Precision-flo for weight adjustment on Vibroscreen simplifies eccentric weight adjustment for circular vibrating screeners Kason Corporation, part of newly formed brand, Akona Process Solutions, and a leader in screening, sifting and processing equipment, has launched an innovative design in circular screening technology: Precision-Flo. This new system significantly simplifies the process of adjusting the eccentric weights, which are crucial for the vibratory motion of their Vibroscreen circular screeners. Tool-free adjustment The traditional approach to adjusting eccentric weights in the industry is often a slow and complex process, typically necessitating the use of tools and partial disassembly. In contrast, the new Precision-Flo system effectively removes these complications by introducing a tool-free adjustment mechanism that is both rapid and efficient. This advancement is especially beneficial for operators for the initial setup of the screener, or for regularly modifying the amplitude settings for varied applications. No extra weights or adjustments In operation, the top
