Precise combustion of wood with inline moisture measurement
With inline moisture measurement burning wood chips or pellets is an efficient, cost-effective and convenient solution
Nowadays, generating environmentally friendly energy by burning wood chips or pellets is an efficient, cost-effective and convenient solution, not only for single-family homes, but also for commercial or municipal buildings. Larger biomass heating systems in particular, with an output of between 6 and 8 MW, mainly use wood chips as fuel. Depending on their composition, storage capacity and storage duration, wood chips can have a very different moisture content, which must be determined reliably and precisely.
Moisture and temperature registration
This makes state-of-the-art sensor technology essential at various points in the process. The moisture measurement sensor plays a very central role in regulating the combustion process through a precise supply of fuel and air. Both the measured moisture values and the temperature of the medium are permanently transmitted from the sensor to the process control of the heating system, thus ensuring that the wood chips burn with a high degree of efficiency at all times.
Lower emissions and ash production
Optimum combustion of the wood fuel also ensures lower emissions and reduces the amount of ash produced. Modern systems can therefore control automatic ash removal, resulting in low-maintenance operation of the heating system. Depending on the type of system and fuel, the sensor can be installed at various points in the heating system.
Easy install of the sensor
The installation of the microwave probe in a pipe of the screw conveyor or the drop shaft for the fuel supply to the combustion chamber are suitable positions for installing the measuring sensor. With the new sensor, it is not necessary to build up or compress the measuring medium at the sensor, which requires a hydraulic or pneumatic device and is therefore subject to a maintenance interval or can also be a disruptive factor.
High sampling rate and penetration depth
This unique feature of the FL-WAPP humidity probe is achieved by a high sampling rate and penetration depth of the measuring signals. Measurement errors due to air inclusions or non-uniform discharge are suppressed by variably suitable filter logarithms. The measurement results from the humidity sensor are ready to be incorporated into the control process in real time, so to speak. The result is smooth and constant moisture measurement data that is available to the complex control procedure.
Remote monitoring
Controlling the sensor via WLAN-enabled end devices such as tablets or smartphones also offers an easy way to check the sensor for functionality, especially if it is located in an inaccessible or hot area of the process.
For new or existing systems, the FL-WAPP sensor also offers a wide range of options for connecting to the process control system - analog, digital or wireless via a UDP protocol, in line with Industry 4.0. This means that all standard options are available for system integration of the FL-WAPP humidity
