All pipe systems with resistant and hygienic surfaces

The pipe systems manufacturer KMH-Kammann Metallbau GmbH supplies its products with blasted surfaces as standard. A new blasting medium is used that ensures a particularly resistant and hygienic surface finish.
For almost 40 years, KMH has been developing and producing clamping ring- or flange-connected pipes, components and systems for aspiration and bulk materials of all kinds. The new high-quality stainless steel finishing will be delivered from November 2022. In order to achieve the optimum surface quality, the blasting medium is completely free of angular structures. In addition, only high-alloy stainless steel grit is used.

With the new finishing process, the stainless steel surfaces convince with roughness depths of maximum Ra 0.8 μm (exceptions are only in the seam area or with poor accessibility). This low surface roughness was tested by BK Werkstofftechnik - Prüfstelle für Werkstoffe GmbH, Bremen.

The exceptionally low surface roughness has clear advantages, especially in terms of hygiene:
  • The refined stainless steel surface meets the hygiene requirements in the food and pharmaceutical industries. The rougher the surface, the easier it is for dirt to settle and adhere to it. For this reason, DIN EN 1672-2 requires a roughness of Ra ≤ 0.8 μm for surfaces in contact with products in the food industry.
  • The reduced adhesion of residual contamination and microorganisms to the smooth surface results in significantly easier cleaning of the pipe system. This reduces downtimes. On the other hand, system availability increases.

The cold-hardened surfaces blasted with stainless steel are convincing with their high resistance and durability. Blasting with very fine balls produces less surface abrasion compared to other processes. This also reduces wear. The service life of the products increases.

Corrosion also has little chance with the new surfaces: due to the minimally invasive impact on the surfaces, there is no stress corrosion. Thus, the material structure is hardly changed by the blasting process.

Last but not least, in modern production and processing facilities, the visual appearance is also a decisive factor in the perception of quality. The stainless steel blasting process developed by KMH ensures a high-quality, matt-silk shine. Machining marks, tarnish discolouration and oxide deposits are reliably removed - the appearance is harmonious all round.

KMH offers the entire spectrum of surface treatment: Customers can choose between stainless steel blasting, pickling or a combination of both.

Blasting with stainless steel

  • The separated material goes back into the cycle; it is thus reused.
  • The harder surfaces make for more durable products, which not only adds value monetarily, but also ecologically.
  • Insourcing the finishing process reduces transport distances. The carbon footprint of the products is reduced.
