MAHLE star-pleated dust filter cartridges are used to separate ultrafine particles from the air. Dust-laden air passes through the fixed, upright filter cartridge, flowing from the outside to the inside, and escapes through the open end cap at the top. Efforts to optimize the filter cartridge for improved flow and rigidity have resulted in a conical cartridge design. With the exceptionally quiet MAHLE multi-jet nozzle, filter cartridges can be cleaned much more efficiently than with conventional nozzles.
A superior cleaning performance compared to cylindrical filter cartridges and more efficient flow ratios result in up to 30% greater capacity in dust collectors.
Advantages of conical filter cartridges over cylindrical cartridges:
- Up to 30% higher volume flows/performance density owing to optimal flow ratios
- More compact filter units as a result
- Better efficient cleaning (less interior volume compared to cylindrical cartridge)
- Superior dust sedimentation (smaller area of bottom end caps)
- Higher differential pressure stability
- Regular flow rate over the whole length
Flow profile on dirt side
The conical cartridge shape results in a greatly reduced upward flow rate near the bottom end caps. This enhances the cleaning performance, especially for light dusts, as it allows for better dust sedimentation.
Effects in sample application involving paper-dust extraction
After 1,170 hours of operation, cylindrical filter cartridges are inadequately cleaned, particularly near the bottom end caps. After retrofitting the filters with conical cartridges, these are still clean from top to bottom after 4,600 hours of operation.
