Poeth Airbelt for green power plant in Turkey

At a power plant in Turkey, the biological fuel is transported with a Poeth airborne conveyor. This leads to 40% energy reduction and 75% less maintenance, compared to a traditional belt conveyor.
The new power plant of MAV Elektrik in Göynük, Bolu (Turkey) converts chicken manure into green electricity. The biological fuel is transported with an Airbelt or airborne conveyor belt from Poeth Solids Processing.
By: Loe Verheijen

At the beginning of 2020, MAV Elektrik started the construction of a power plant that converts approximately 250,000 tons of chicken manure into 35 MWe of green electricity every year. The power station supplies power to approximately 100,000 households, with significantly lower CO2 emissions than a coal-fired power station. The ash produced – about 35,000 tons – is used as fertilizer.

Airborne Tire

The chicken manure is fed to the combustion boilers with an Airbelt from Poeth Solids Processing. This airconveyor or airborne conveyor belt has been selected by the Danish system integrator Aalborg Energie Technik. The choice for Poeth was partly inspired by the positive Airbelt experiences of BMC in Moerdijk, where chicken manure is also processed into green energy. The biological fuel has a high chloride and alkali content and is very corrosive. The Airbelt, which is made of stainless steel, is extremely resistant to this. The Airbelt at MAV Elektrik has a capacity of 175 m3 chicken manure per hour. The actual flow rate is accurately controlled by an OIML certified weighing section.

Other applications

Poeth has also supplied six Airbelts to a Pannonia Bio bioethanol plant in Hungary over the past few years. These supply the power station in all weathers 24/7 to full satisfaction. In the past, Pannonia Bio has tested an apparently comparable air conveyor, but without success. They had to contend with a lot of maintenance due to, among other things, tire wear. The Poeth Airbelt stands out positively thanks to its precisely calculated design and the high-quality execution of essential details.

Less friction

Compared to a traditional belt conveyor, the Poeth Airbelt has 95% fewer rotating parts and therefore has much less friction. This makes the airborne conveyor belt 40% more energy efficient and also quiet. The belt does not rest on transport rollers, but floats on a powerful air film (the Hovercraft principle). The air film is created by special high pressure fans. A power of approximately 0.75 kW is installed per 50 meters of transport distance. So no expensive compressed air is required. The Airbelt only uses a drive, tension and turning station for its movement. With virtually no friction, virtually no waste is generated from worn parts. This also gives the installation a long service life.
