General Features In the process of combustion at high temperatures, various gases spread out to the atmosphere. They are toxic and harmful to human health. Powdered activated carbon (PAC) is high performance adsorbent engineered to eliminate such toxic gases like dioxins, furans and other chemicals like mercury. In addition to flue gas treatment, another area of application is the removal of micropollutants in wastewater cleaning and drinking water treatment. Environmental problems affecting air and water are solved through the use of activated carbon. PAC is commonly used in chemical plants, steel mills, waste disposal facilities, coal-fired power plants and casting plants. Under normal conditions, baghouse filters are not eligible to prevent the spreading of the flue gases produced by the incineration process. Pneumatic Conveying of Baghouse & ESP Filter Dusts
Dust collection systems, baghouse filters and ESP systems are used to remove dust from production lines. Collected dust is discharged from the bottom hopper of dust collectors and sent to containers, trucks and/or silos. Dust discharge and conveying are handled by different types of conveyors. Pneumatic conveying systems provide reliable and safe handling of filter dust. Mechanical malfunctions caused by screw conveyors, scrapers, bucket elevators, chain gears and similar mechanical conveying equipment are prevented. Features of Pneumatic Dust Conveying Systems The pneumatic conveying system transfers the collected dust from filter or cyclone hopper to silo. Rotary valves are installed below each bag filter hopper. A pneumatic conveying pipeline is installed below rotary valves and collects the dust coming from hoppers. Automatic Sack Discharge and Extruder Feeding System Polimak has successfully completed polyethylene handling projects for a global composite manufacturer. The client's demand was to achieve a seamless bulk material handling solution from raw material delivery to the feeding of the production line. The turnkey project includes an automatic sack discharging system, pneumatic conveying system, stainless steel storage silos, and extruder feeding system. All components of the system are controlled from a central PLC system for fully automated operation. The core component of the project was an automatic bag discharge system that enables bulk materials coming from sacks to be unloaded in an efficient and safe way of saving manpower, time and operational costs. Bags with 15 to 50 kg on plastic or wooden pallets are placed on the belt conveyor of the system together with pallet by forklift. A conveyor moves the pallet to the bag lifting unit. Big bag discharging and bulk truck loading processes are always problematic. The dust spread to the atmosphere during big bag discharging and truck loading. Lifting big bags by overhead cranes or forklifts above the truck and discharging by manpower causes safety risks. Inefficient methods increase operation time, labor and energy costs. A fixed big bag discharging and truck loading terminal could also be possible but the storage location of big bags and truck loading stations may not be close to each other. Though, lots of big bag transportation operations might be needed. And the investment cost of such a terminal may not lead to a feasible solution. Huge bulk trucks may not approach to big bag discharge station or they may not make moves easily in the plant. Though, these trucks and forklifts cause a traffic jam.
