Our company, located in what was until recently known the picturesque Ahr valley region, has also been impaired. Even though our manufactory has not been flooded, most our employees are affected badly, as almost all of them live in the disaster area. Some of them have lost everything, others still have a roof over their heads, but they have to live with the traumatic view day to day. The destroyed infrastructure does have not only tremendous impact on the people but also for the companies of this region. Between feeling completely helpless and our overwhelming wish and unconditional will to stand together in this crisis, Köllemann has been active. A preheater with a throughput of 51 tph leaves our production facility and is sent on its journey to the customer. KÖLLEMANN preheaters are used to heat up petroleum coke. Petroleum coke is a residue formed as a by-product of petroleum refining and is made of almost pure carbon. KÖLLEMANN preheaters perform the heating process and heat the product from at least 0°C to approx. 200°C. The heated petroleum coke is then mixed with hot pitch in a kneader. The paste formed is then pressed into a block shape. These blocks are then baked and represent the anode, which is used in the Hall-Héroult process (electrolysis) for the reduction of aluminium.

High-temperature preheaters for pitch with higher melting point High-temperature preheaters for pitch with higher melting point Köllemann GmbH from Germany, a well-established supplier of coke preheaters for the global primary aluminium industry, is sponding to the more stringent demands that are expected to be imposed on the production of anodes in future. New environmental guidelines for the use of pitch in this field will mean it will no longer be possible to use the standard pitch currently used. Over the last two years, the company has therefore developed special machinery to allow pitch with a significantly higher melting point to be processed safely and reliably. Preheaters currently use thermal oil as the heat source, and this flows through the screw flights, the housing and the main shaft it is capable of reaching temperatures of 300-350 °C.
