Freeman Technology specialises in systems for measuring the flow properties of powders and has over 20 years’ experience in powder flow and powder characterisation. The company invests significantly in R&D and applications development, and provides detailed know-how to support its range of products. Expert teams guide and support users around the world in addressing their individual powder challenges, focusing on delivering the most relevant information for the process. The result is world-leading solutions for understanding powder behaviour - in development, formulation, scale-up, processing, quality control, or anywhere that powders have a role.

Freeman Technology’s solutions include the FT4 Powder Rheometer®, a uniquely universal powder tester, and the Uniaxial Powder Tester, a complementary tool for quick and robust powder assessment. Systems are installed around the world in the chemical, pharmaceutical, toners, foods, powder coatings, metals, ceramics, cosmetics, and many other industries. They deliver data that maximise process and product understanding, accelerating R&D and formulation towards successful commercialisation, and supporting the long term optimisation of powder processes.

Founded in 1989 as a developer of automated testing systems for materials characterisation, the company has focused exclusively on powders since the late 1990s and in 2018 became part of Micromeritics Instrument Corporation.

e-Book about benefits of Powder Flow Testing for Pharmaceuticals
Freeman Technology presents an eBook on how powder testing delivers tangible returns in the Pharmaceutical industry, from R&D into production. A new eBook from Freeman Technology explores the application and value of powder testing in the pharmaceutical industry. Incorporating case study data from leading pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer and GSK it highlights how powder testing can shorten time to market and improve process economics. The ability of the FT4 Powder Rheometer® to deliver a handsome return on investment is robustly explored via example applications from formulation through to routine troubleshooting. Freely available for download ‘Powder Flow Testing for Pharmaceuticals’ has something for any scientist or engineer working to understand and control powder behaviour to make better pharmaceuticals, more cost-effectively. The modern pharmaceutical industry relies on effective powder handling and processing to make an increasingly sophisticated array of products ranging from controlled and rapid release tablets to inhaled therapeutics for respiratory illness. In this ebook we examine: *

Battery performance boosted by advanced powder testing
Rapid sales growth and repeat sales to major battery/car manufacturers indicate that the FT4 Powder Rheometer® has an important role to play in the optimization of lithium battery manufacture Like others before them, notably the pharmaceutical sector and those pioneering the use of additive manufacturing, battery producers are discovering that there is no substitute for effective powder testing when it comes to accessing the highest levels of performance. Freeman Technology has revealed insights in to changing sales patterns that suggest that measuring and controlling bulk powder properties is increasingly recognized as essential for those pushing towards next-level consistency at an accessible manufacturing cost. Up until a few years ago sales of the FT4 Powder Rheometer to battery manufacturers were fairly limited, but they now represent a sizeable percentage of the company’s business. Crucially, multiple/repeat sales suggest use has transitioned out of R&D and into manufacture, into QA and QC, which only tends to happen when powder properties have been securely linked with important performance metrics. In conventional battery manufacture incoming

Characterising Powder Flow Properties for Pharmaceutical Applications
To fully understand powder behaviour, a multifaceted approach, which examines a diverse range of powder properties, is needed Characterising Powder Flow Properties for Pharmaceutical Applications To fully understand powder behaviour, a multifaceted approach, which examines a diverse range of powder properties, is needed The pharmaceutical industry is a continually evolving sector, with requirements to consistently improve efficiency while maintaining product quality. Understanding and controlling powder behaviour is a major focus for effective processing. The complexities of powder behaviour are reflected in the varied studies carried out by FT4 Powder Rheometer® users. Over the last decade, there has been increased recognition that in order to fully understand powder behaviour, a multifaceted approach, which examines a diverse range of powder properties, is needed. Freeman Technology has collected several papers that highlight a variety of processing challenges, and how powder testing can be used to identify properties to optimise pharmaceutical processes. Predicting 3D print quality from powder properties Transitioning from ‘trial and error’ to a more cost-effective, sustainable approach with the FT4 Powder Rheometer®
Predicting 3D print quality from powder properties
Transitioning from ‘trial and error’ to a more cost-effective, sustainable approach with the FT4 Powder Rheometer® Researchers from De Montfort University (Leicester, UK) have successfully correlated the quality of 3D printed polyamide specimens with powder properties measured with the FT4 Powder Rheometer® from Freeman Technology paving the way to more cost-efficient, sustainable powder feedstock selection. Powders are currently selected for 3D printing via print trials, but these are costly, time-consuming, and wasteful. Key observations from this latest research are that the: * quality of polyamide 3D printed specimens is dependent on the packing efficiency and flowability of the associated powder feedstocks * packing efficiency and flowability can be reliably differentiated via the measurement of bulk and dynamic powder properties with the FT4 Powder Rheometer * key mechanical properties of printed specimens such as dimensional accuracy, tensile strength, and surface roughness correlate robustly with polyamide powder properties measurable with the FT4 Powder Rheometer In

Optimising powder feedstocks in additive manufacturing New Application Note from Freeman Technology draws together studies that illustrate the application of the FT4 within this context
Optimising powder feedstocks in additive manufacturing
New Application Note from Freeman Technology draws together studies that illustrate the application of the FT4 within this context Powder manufacturers, powder reprocessors and users of additive manufacturing (AM) all share the need to optimise powders for superior print performance. Strategies for improving performance range from changing atomisation conditions to the application of proprietary rejuvenation processes but successful application relies on being able to robustly evaluate impact. Powder testing can be extremely cost-efficient, relative to a print trial, when it comes to addressing the critical issue of whether a proposed processing step or strategy delivers a worthwhile gain. A new application note, ‘Applications of the FT4 Powder Rheometer in Additive Manufacturing -Part 2’, now available from Freeman Technology, draws together studies that illustrate the application of the FT4 within this context. Experimental data from the case studies below, show how the instrument can relevantly quantify the impact of processing strategies to support the optimisation of AM powders. *
