Caking and Lump Formation in Powders and Bulk Solids

Short Course

An on-line course covering the causes of lump formation and hardening of powders and bulk materials in storage, and the techniques used to predict and solve these problems.

It is designed for engineers, plant managers, skilled operatives, maintenance and equipment manufacturers handling powders and bulk materials.

Course fees are £450 per delegate. The course will be split into 2 sessions, starting at 14:00 UK time.

This course is also available as an In-Company course. The course will be delivered in English.

Online short course for the powder and particulate industry at The Wolfson Centre For Bulk Solids Handling Technology. 1 - 2 February 2022; 14:00 - 17:00 hrs each day (UK time) This course is designed to deal with issues relating to keeping powders and granules in a free-flowing, lump-free condition. You will learn about: * The forces between particles and how they relate to chemistry, the environment and physical processes; * Methods for determining caking tendencies of powders and granules; * Practical advice on changes to the product and the handling and storage conditions to reduce this problem; * Advice on selection of the solution and practical implementation; The course is aimed at Produce Managers, Development Chemists/Formulators, Quality Assurance Officers and Plant Designers/Managers. Operational staff or senior management will also benefit through a better understanding of what can go wrong and how to make your plant as efficient and trouble-free as possible. Delegates are also invited to take part in a Practical Workshop on 16 February at the Wolfson

Short course: Caking and Lump Formation in Powders and Bulk Solids
Attendance on this on-line short course will give delegates the opportunity to learn how to control or minimise unwanted caking in particulate materials For many industries controlling or minimising unwanted caking/ agglomeration of powders and particulate materials is a significant challenge which, in worst case scenario, can result in a halt in production. This course aims to explain how and why caking/ lump formation occurs and how to avoid or minimise the risk. Over the 2 sessions you will learn about: * Occurrences of caking in processes: A discussion of the methods that can be useful in predicting or trouble shooting unintended agglomeration of bulk materials in industry * Types of caking and methods for laboratory evaluation: A review of the range of caking mechanisms that can occur in processes and options for quantifying the ‘strength’ of agglomerates. * Common plant and operational issues: A session focussing on how various types of caking problems are created or exacerbated by the use of some types of standard equipment for handling bulk solids. Common design mistakes are highlighted and
