Benefits of Fluidized bed spray granulation
Fluidised bed spray granulation produces granules of the desired particle size and high chemical stability through targeted particle structure and temperature control. Granulating creates free-flowing solids, directly from the suspension / solution. Pesticides are often produced in the aqueous phase as a suspension. A dust-free product (application safety) must be created. Targeted grain structure results in granules in the desired grain size and optimal temperature control enables high chemical stability. Fluidized bed spray granulation has become firmly established as a drying process in recent years, because it can convert a solid-containing liquid into a dry product in a single process step. Advantages of spray granulation (1) the possibility of influencing the resulting particle size and bulk density (2) the extremely precise control of product temperature as well (3) the generally low process temperature contribute to this success. A characteristic of the process is that the liquid is sprayed onto its own particles, which are intensively mixed and dried in the fluidized bed. As a result of the spraying, the particles

Due to their design, fluidised bed technology systems can be used very flexibly. Fluidised bed technology processes benefit from: * the intensive mixing of the original solids * the large available particle surface * the fine distribution of liquid droplets A fluidised bed consists of a bed of solid particles that are lifted by an upward flow of air and thereby converted into a liquid-like state, i.e. fluidised. By spraying a solid-bearing liquid with an average droplet size of 50 µm (1 liter of water = 15 billion droplets) onto the fluidised bed, granules or agglomerates can be produced. Further possible steps are coating or matrix encapsulation phases. After any subsequent drying or further thermal treatment, the finished product can easily be discharged from the system. Addition of liquid is carried out with a positive-displacement pump by spraying, using a two-substance nozzle. Compressed air is generally used for nebulization. Blender design compliant to EHEDG
Thrust blenders are the most suitable for gentle mixing of products with broad particle size distribution. For a functional-drink-application a ribbon type blender with 3000 litres useful volume was built. The blender has a single shaft. The mixing tools are ribbons, which are arranged screw-like at two circumferences. The inner ribbon with the smaller diameter promotes the product from the centre outward and the outer ribbon again inward. Pushing the ribbons through the bulk product provides the mixing. For application in the foodstuffs industry an EHEDG compliant design is used. The materials of construction were carefully selected and high quality surfaces were realized; furthermore, bolted connections were avoided as far as possible. Special attention was paid to dead-space-free constructions at the discharge, where a metallic sealing was implemented. Since the blender is wet cleaned, it is provided with particularly large openings, which improve the accessibility
